E16 FBO

On December 11, 2020, the 25-year lease for the property that includes Magnum Aviation and the adjacent 57 hangars expire.  Airport staff has started the process of soliciting bids for an FBO to operate in that space.  The bid documents have been released via Bidsync, an online bid management tool used by the County.  If you or somebody you know is interested in reviewing the bid packet please review this special page on our website that has some important information and a link to a free account on bidsync.

Covid-19

The shelter in place order has had a dramatic impact on operations at the airport.  Even so, the airports have remained open with airport staff onsite every day ensuring the grass is cut and the airfield is safely operated.  We have kept the terminal building closed to the public, but if you need access during the day, you may use the radio call box located adjacent to the front door, to reach staff.

In recognition of the hardship faced by so many at this unusual time, we have temporarily suspended late fees charged on aircraft parking accounts.  We anticipate continuing this through the July billing.  If you find yourself having trouble paying your parking invoice, please contact Ken or Femi.  Please keep in mind that while we would like to be able to forgive outstanding balances, we are not in a position to do so.  However, we will gladly work with you in any way we can to accommodate your needs.

The Santa Clara County Health Officers has issued an update to the Order that will take effect on May 22.  To read the new Order, and review the attachments, view the County Covid web page

Staff Changes

When Patrick McGuinness started working at the County Airports he became an invaluable member of the airport team with responsibilities including the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the airfields.  He also got to know many of you personally and could recite where you parked your airplane from memory.  As of May 1 this year, after 17 years of friendship and airport service, Patrick decided to retire and try his hand at other endeavors.  Please join me in wishing Patrick a happy and fruitful retirement.  He will be greatly missed.

County Airports - Karan

While we go through the hiring process to fill the vacancy left by Patrick’s departure, we have hired an interim Airport Options Worker. Karan Ghuman is a recent SJSU Aviation Program graduate and is quickly learning the day-to-day operations of Reid-Hillview and San Martin Airport.  If you happen to be on the field and see Karan, please help welcome him, just maintain social distance.

Grounds Keeping

Airport staff continues to tackle mowing and weed trimming on a daily basis.  Unfortunately, both of our tractors were down for a couple of weeks recently, which put us a little behind.  They have since been repaired and are back at work.

Work Orders and Repair Requests

If you have a repair or maintenance request, please enter it in our web-based workorder system available here.  The system should send an automatic email to us, but feel free to send a message to Femi also.

We are here to help, so please don’t hesitate to contact any us at the airport if we can be of help in any way.
